Urulakilangu podimaas

"Urulakilangu" means Potato in tamil and podimaas means mashed. So this is nothing but a south indian version of mashed potatoes served with rice and dal.

To serve 2, you will need

Potatoes - 3, medium sized, boiled and mashed.
Onion - 1, medium sized, chopped
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Split moong dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Salt to taste
Oil - 2 tbsp

Method

Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then add cumin seeds and split moong dal and fry till they turn golden.

Add curry leaves and onion and fry it well.

Put red chilli powder, tumeric powder and mix well.

Now add the mashed potatoes and mix it well. Close the kadai with a lid and cook on medium low flame till the potaotes turn bit golden and crunchy from outside.
